Soch and Autism Ontario presents “Changing Relationships” in Punjabi
Workshop Goal: learn how to maintain healthy relationships while caring for a child with autism.
This workshop will allow South Asian parents and caregivers of a child with autism to explore the impact of the diagnosis on family relationships. Core themes of this workshop may include exploring cultural shame and stigma, evolving interpersonal relationships, and societal perceptions of gender-related caregiver roles.
Maneet Chahal (RN, BScN, MSc) & Jasmeet Chagger (RN, BScN, MSc(c)) are two passionate community change-makers. They have over 8 years of mental health nursing experience and have closely witnessed their family and friends struggle with mental illness.
Along with working in the field of mental health, Maneet finished her Masters of Nursing in 2018 which looked at the South Asian Punjabi community’s experience of accessing mental health services for depression in the Region of Peel.
Jasmeet’s Masters of Science in Nursing thesis explores the perceptions of alcohol use and the experience of Punjabi families impacted by problem drinking.
