What is Mental Health & Why Should You Care?
December 1, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
About this Event
Mental health is a highly stigmatized conversation in the South Asian community. In this community conversation we will focus on:
- Facilitating an introductory conversation about increasing your understanding of mental health.
- Increasing your awareness on how to navigate the mental health system for support.
- Discuss strategies to cope with the pandemic.
Meet your facilitators:
Jasmeet Chagger (RN, BScN, MSc(c)) [left] & Maneet Chahal (RN, BScN, MSc) [right] are two passionate community change-makers. They have over 8 years of mental health nursing experience and have closely witnessed their family and friends to struggle with mental illness.
Along with working in the field of mental health, Maneet finished her Masters of Nursing in 2018 which looked at the South Asian Punjabi community’s experience of accessing mental health services for depression in the Region of Peel. Jasmeet has embarked her journey of Masters of Nursing with looking at family perceptions of problem drinking in South Asian Punjabi households and is working away to complete her research this year.
Both best friends co-founded SOCH Mental Health and kicked off their very first workshop in April of 2015.
